Peter Charlish is a mosaic artist who spent over forty years in management roles. On retirement from that life Peter took up mosaics full time. He initially sold at the Eumundi markets where demand was very strong. When the workload became too demanding Peter moved to local markets.
Peter has created decorative garden art such as pots, pavers, slabs, bird baths and pipes. Peter prefers to create indoors art for wall hanging and has a range of “beach hut” scenes in addition to travel scenes from Venice and other cities he has visited. Peter is a self trained Mosaic artist and although mostly self taught he has completed workshops with the esteemed mosaic artist Jacqui Douglas. Peter likes to work on items that are practical as well as having artistic appeal. He produces mosaic tables, house numbers, lazy susans, mosaic glass mirrors, photo frames, wine coolers etc.
Since completing his first mosaic Peter has become convinced that there is almost nothing that cannot be done in mosaic. He has completed and sold novelty items such as chairs, surf boards, guitars, ten pins, balls etc. These items all look great and have many uses in the garden or courtyard as well as entry foyers and entertainment areas.
Peter’s productions are completed in ceramic tiles, glass tesserae, recycled china, pebbles and mirror. Grout colours are selected to enhance the design and the medium being used. Mosaic is not an exact science and the fact that all items are individually hand crafted means that no two items will be exactly the same.
Above all else Peter likes to ensure that his work is “different”.
